Wilfredo Codilla
My work exists in the space between the observed and the felt, rooted in the rolling topography of the Midwest landscape and the boundless interior world of color. Whether through the atmospheric stillness of a horizon line or the breaking forth of abstract color collages, my practice is an exploration of reverence.
Influenced by the luminous tradition of the Hudson River School, my landscapes seek to capture the quiet awe of the landscape—the way light dissolves form during a humid twilight or a fleeting fog. These pieces are about the revelation of presence, where places are not just subjects, but a vessel for emotive discovery of the what we thought we knew.
My abstract works engage with the wonder of color through the strata of dyes and torn paper layers. The colors intermingle and transform through a process of expressive motion for both the creator’s will and the character of the created.
Ultimately, my art is an invitation to look longer from afar and close up. In an age of rapid consumption, I create windows into the slow, meditative process of seeing—finding the extraordinary within the layers of the light we inhabit and the shadows of perception.
